The group, founded by president Kike Sarasola, has opened Room Mate Macarena on the Gran Vía street in an urban esplanade in the heart of central Madrid, at Calle Gran Vía 43. The hotel will hold 130 rooms divided into five categories [standard, standard exterior, standard with views, Junior Suite and Suite] and has been designed by interior designer Tomás Alía.
According to Tourinews, the hotel will be situated in the iconic Gutiérrez Soto building, in close proximity to some of Madrid’s most recognisable landmarks. The group believes the hotel combines artisan excellence with Arabic inspiration influenced by Alía, as well as the key element of light seen through the decor throughout the building.
Room Mate Macarena will feature a swimming pool, hammock area, cocktail bar, and a meeting / events room overlooking the Gran Vía from the ninth floor.
Sarasola said in a statement: „I’m very excited to be opening up again in Madrid, where we launched our very first hotel in 2000. It is a hotel that is very meaningful for me because my Dad used to bring me to the hairdresser’s there, which was situated on the ground floor of the building.
„Furthermore, I wanted to pay tribute to my great friend, Macarena Rey, whose grandfather was the owner of the old cinemas in the building. That’s why we decided to name the hotel in this way,” he added.
Alía said: „I am very proud of this haute couture work that we have created to decorate the Macarena. It has become one of the last hotels that will open in this new Gran Vía street, which looks more beautiful than ever.”
Among the cities in which Room Mate has reopened hotels are Madrid, Barcelona, San Sebastián, Málaga, Granada, Paris, Florence and Milan.
It has also implemented its STAY SAFE, STAY Well protocols throughout all of its hotels, which include recommendations for local health authorities to contact and additional measures specifically developed for the campaign in order to protect guests, providers and employees.
